The First Lions Club in Egypt was established
in 1955 and was called Cairo Lions Club. Mr. Mohamed Zaki
Abdel-Qader, Chief Editor of Akhbar Al-Youm Newspaper, was the first
President and Mr. Ghali Amin Ghali, Prof. At the American University
in Cairo, was the first secretary.
The
Club held its first meeting at the Continental Hotel that offered a
luxurious dinner for the price of 40 piasters !!.

The first Lioness Club was the Guiza
Cosmopolitan Lioness Club established in April 1978 by Mrs. Mona
Abou-Zeid. This was the first Lioness Club in the Middle East and
the second one in Africa (after a club in Morocco).

The First Leo Club in the Middle East was
established by Mrs. Mona Abou-Zeid in August 1982 and was called
Guiza Cosmopolitan Leo Club. This Leo Club obtained the
International Distinction Award for 14 consecutive
years.

On
March 17th,1981, the Lions Clubs International recognized
Egyptian Lions Clubs as a Single District under the number 352. The
First District Governor was Mr. Mohamed Zaki
Abdel-Qader.
