The First Lions Club in Egypt was established in 1955 and was called Cairo Lions Club. Mr. Mohamed Zaki Abdel-Qader, Chief Editor of Akhbar Al-Youm Newspaper, was the first President and Mr. Ghali Amin Ghali, Prof. At the American University in Cairo, was the first secretary.

The Club held its first meeting at the Continental Hotel that offered a luxurious dinner for the price of 40 piasters !!.

Shortly afterwards, Alexandria Lions Club was established followed by another Lions Club in Port-Saied.

The first Lioness Club was the Guiza Cosmopolitan Lioness Club established in April 1978 by Mrs. Mona Abou-Zeid. This was the first Lioness Club in the Middle East and the second one in Africa (after a club in Morocco).

LEO CLUBS :

The First Leo Club in the Middle East was established by Mrs. Mona Abou-Zeid in August 1982 and was called Guiza Cosmopolitan Leo Club. This Leo Club obtained the International Distinction Award for 14 consecutive years.

 

DISTRICT RECOGNITION :

On March 17th,1981, the Lions Clubs International recognized Egyptian Lions Clubs as a Single District under the number 352. The First District Governor was Mr. Mohamed Zaki Abdel-Qader.

The Website Manager, Maggi Selim,  who made the effort to build up the Lions Clubs of Egypt Website after taking the green light from Dr. Mamdouh Wahba, District Governor 2002 – 2003, under her supervision and execution, with a great pleasure, along with the committee that consisted of:-

  • Mr. Hossam Khodeir, the  cooperative man, who in turn was the first one to apply the SMS system in his club for meetings announcement.
